New Terril firm specializes in repairing windshield cracks

Fas-Break Windshield Repair in Terril opened Oct. 1 under the ownership of Ron Soat. Soat recently purchased the franchise and will cover a ten county area in Iowa and Minnesota.

Soat’s brother Kerry Soat is founder and president of Fas-Break which formed in 1985. Fas-Break, a nation-wide company, is based in Tempe, Ariz. Fas-Break has a franchise in all fifty states, there are currently three in the state of Iowa, Algona and Indianola have the other tow franchises. Fas-Break is completely mobile and will come to the location of the client. Most repairs take about 30 minutes and Fas-Break has one flat fee, $39.95, which includes fixing the windshield and the mobile service.

"Sometimes the repair won’t even cost the customer anything," said Soat. "Most insurance companies waive the deductible on the customers glass coverage if the chip is repaired early enough to prevent further damage."

Soat flew down to Phoenix, Ariz. for a three-day training season to learn the Fas-Break repair procedure. Fas-Break uses a resin procedure that allows the client OT be able to use his/or her car or truck as soon as the service is finished.

Fas-Break fixes a crack by injecting a clear acrylic resin into the break forcing all the air out. It is then hardened by Ultra-Violet light and the repair is optically clear and strength to the window is restored.

Soat has only one mobile unit now, but hopes to add at least two more units within a year when becomes established. He hopes to place units in rock Rapids and Cherokee too.

Fas-Break’s 10 county area includes: clay, Dickinson, Buena Vista, Osceola, Sioux, Lyon, O’Brien and Cherokee. He also serves Nobles and Jackson counties in Minnesota.

"Right now I’m just trying to establish myself," said Soat. "Hopefully, by spring I can have two or three more employee’s."
